What it is
How Botox actually works
Botox is an injectable botulinum toxin type A, used to relax the specific muscles that fold the skin into lines. It temporarily interrupts the nerve signal to that muscle, so the movement softens and the skin above it stops creasing.
That mechanism is why it works beautifully on some things and not at all on others. Lines that appear when you frown, raise your brows or smile are dynamic — Botox is the correct treatment. Lines that sit in your face at rest are static, etched by years of movement plus volume and collagen loss, and usually need hydration, a booster or a biostimulator alongside the toxin.
The same relaxing effect is used away from expression lines too: to slim an overactive jaw muscle, release tight shoulders, and switch off overactive sweat glands in the underarms.
Which of those applies to you is decided in person, not from a photo. If your concern isn’t a movement problem, we’ll tell you and point you at the treatment that is.

Every Botox treatment at Aeconic is assessed and injected by our clinic doctor, Dr. Connie Calista Tham. Nothing is delegated to a therapist, and nothing is injected before an examination.
That assessment is the part that decides your result. Facial muscles differ in strength and pattern from person to person, and a dose that suits one forehead will drop the brow on another. We map how your face actually moves before deciding where the product goes.
We also use registered product with single-use sterile technique, and we’re happy to show you the vial and batch before injection. If you’re comparing clinics in Canggu, ask each of them to do the same — it’s a fair question, and the hesitation tells you everything.
If Botox isn’t the right answer for what’s bothering you, Dr. Connie will say so and explain what is. Sometimes that’s a skin booster, sometimes a filler, and sometimes it’s skincare and time.

Protecting the result in a tropical climate
Standard Botox aftercare assumes an air-conditioned life. Here it has to survive heat, salt water, pools and sun — so ours is written for Bali.
Before your treatment
Skip alcohol and caffeine for 24 hours — both increase the chance of bruising.
Pause blood thinners, fish oil and anti-inflammatories where your prescribing doctor allows it. Never stop prescribed medication without asking them first.
Arrive hydrated, rested and having eaten. Treatment on an empty stomach is the most common cause of light-headedness.
Tell us if you’re pregnant, breastfeeding, on antibiotics, or have a neuromuscular condition — some of these mean we postpone.
Come with a clean face if you can. If not, we’ll cleanse the area for you.
After your treatment
Stay upright for 5 – 6 hours. No lying down, no face-down massage, no tight headwear or helmets pressing on the treated area.
No sauna, steam, hot yoga or heavy exercise for 48 hours. Heat and blood flow move product where it shouldn’t go.
Avoid alcohol and blood thinners for the first 24 hours.
Sun, sea and pool are fine after 24 hours — with high-SPF sunscreen and a hat. UV is what puts the lines back.
Facial Botox: no facials, peels, RF or laser for 1 – 2 weeks.
Scalp Botox: no washing, rubbing or hats for 2 days; no other scalp treatments for a week.
Underarm Botox: no deodorant, shaving, hot showers or swimming for 2 days. Wear loose clothing.
Some clinics recommend supplements such as zinc or vitamin K before treatment to reduce bruising. Whether that’s appropriate for you depends on your medical history and current medication — ask Dr. Connie at consultation rather than self-prescribing.

Three treatments people confuse with Botox
Botox relaxes movement. If your concern is volume, hydration or laxity, it isn’t the right tool — and no dose will make it one.
Meso Botox
Same product, diluted and placed in the superficial skin instead of the muscle. It refines pores, softens fine lines and reduces oil — without relaxing expression. Lasts around 2 – 3 months. Many patients run both.
Hyaluronic acid gel that adds volume and rebuilds contour. Where Botox stops a line forming, filler restores what has been lost underneath it. Deep static lines often need both.
Focused ultrasound that tightens skin and stimulates collagen at depth. For sagging and lost firmness along the jawline and mid-face — a laxity problem, not a movement one.
A large share of our Botox patients are travellers and expats on the west coast. If you’re here for a week, when you book matters as much as what you book.
Book it early in your trip. Botox needs 7 to 14 days to show, so a treatment on your last day means you’ll see the result at home with no one to review it. Come in the first few days and we can check and adjust before you fly.
Flying within 48 hours? Flying itself is safe — we simply ask you to stay upright for the first 5 to 6 hours and skip the immediate post-flight sauna. Tell us your departure date at booking and we’ll plan backwards from it.
Beach days and surf. Sun, sea and pool are fine from 24 hours. High-SPF sunscreen and a hat aren’t optional here — UV is the single fastest way to undo what you just paid for.
Living in Canggu? Most patients settle into a rhythm of every 4 to 6 months. Results tend to hold longer once you’ve had a few consistent cycles.

How much does Botox cost in Bali?
At Aeconic Clinic in Canggu, Botox is priced per unit from IDR 55,000 with registered Korean toxin, or from IDR 85,000 per unit with Allergan Botox.
Your total depends on how many units your muscles need. A forehead typically requires far fewer units than masseter jaw slimming, traptox or underarms, which treat much larger muscles and therefore cost more. We confirm the total with you during consultation before any treatment begins, and nothing is added mid-treatment. How long does Botox last?
Botox typically lasts 3 to 6 months. You’ll start to see changes within 7 to 14 days, with the peak result at 4 to 6 weeks.
Duration varies with the area treated, the dose used, your metabolism and how active the muscle is. Masseter and traptox often hold slightly longer than forehead lines, while very expressive faces and frequent training can shorten it. Most patients return every 4 to 6 months, and results tend to last longer once you’ve had a few consistent cycles.
Does Botox hurt, and is there downtime?
Most patients describe it as a brief pinch, and there’s no real downtime. The injections use an ultra-fine needle and the whole procedure takes 10 to 20 minutes, so you can return to normal activity straight away. Topical numbing is available on request.
Mild redness or small bumps at the injection points usually settle within an hour, and occasional light bruising can occur. The only restrictions are for the first 24 to 48 hours: stay upright for 5 to 6 hours, no massage or tight headwear on the area, no alcohol for a day, and no sauna, hot yoga or heavy exercise for 48 hours.
Can I get Botox while on holiday in Bali?
Yes, and it’s one of the most common requests we see — but timing matters. Book your treatment at the start of your trip rather than the day before you fly home, so we can review and adjust if needed. Flying itself is safe; we simply recommend staying upright for a few hours after treatment before boarding.
For the first 48 hours, avoid sauna, hot springs and strenuous exercise. Swimming, surfing and sun are fine after 24 hours, but wear high-SPF sunscreen and a hat — Bali UV is intense, and sun exposure is exactly what ages the skin Botox is treating. If you’re also planning facials, peels or laser, leave 1 to 2 weeks between those and your Botox.
What’s the difference between Botox and Meso Botox?
Botox is injected into the muscle to relax it; Meso Botox is a diluted dose delivered into the superficial layers of the skin. Standard Botox targets movement — forehead lines, frown lines, crow’s feet, masseter, traptox — by temporarily blocking the nerve signal to the muscle.
Meso Botox doesn’t relax expression. It works on skin quality: shrinking pores, softening fine lines, and reducing oil and sweat production, with a shorter duration of around 2 to 3 months. How many units will I need for forehead, masseter or traptox?
It depends on your muscle strength, but typical clinical ranges are around 6 to 15 units for forehead lines, 12 to 20 for frown lines, 20 to 30 units per side for masseter jaw slimming, and 25 to 50 units per side for traptox.
Men generally require more units than women, because facial and shoulder muscles are stronger. Frown lines and crow’s feet sit at the lower end; masseter and trapezius are large muscles and need noticeably more, which is why those treatments cost considerably more than a single upper-face area at IDR 55,000 a unit. Dr. Connie assesses your muscle movement in person and quotes the exact number of units before starting — under-dosing to hit a price point is why some results fade within six weeks.

Choosing where to get Botox in Bali
Botox is offered on almost every main road in Canggu and Seminyak, at prices that vary by a factor of five. The gap is not marketing — it’s product, dose and who holds the needle.
Ask who injects, before you ask the price
In Indonesia, injectables are a medical act. Ask directly whether a doctor performs the injection or whether a therapist does it under nominal supervision. At Aeconic, Dr. Connie Calista Tham assesses and injects — there is no version of the visit where that changes.
Ask to see the vial
Very cheap Botox exists because unregistered and counterfeit toxin exists, and because product is diluted beyond what the dose can support. Ask to see the box, the brand and the batch number before treatment. A clinic that hesitates has already answered the question.
Understand what you’re paying for: units
Botox is priced by the unit, and units are what produce the result. A quote that looks unusually low often reflects fewer units rather than a better deal — which is why the result fades in six weeks instead of four months. Comparing clinics on price alone, without knowing the dose, compares nothing at all.

A clinic that has never told a patient “not yet” or “not this” is optimising for revenue rather than results. Pregnancy, breastfeeding, certain neuromuscular conditions, active infection at the injection site and unrealistic expectations are all reasons to postpone. Hearing that is a good sign.
Ask what happens at two weeks
Botox isn’t finished when you leave the room. A clinic that reviews you at 7 to 14 days can adjust asymmetry or a heavy brow while it still matters. Ask who you contact if something concerns you, and whether a review is included.
