  • Written for tropical sunThe riskiest part of a peel here isn’t the acid. It’s the week afterwards.

What it is

Controlled damage, on purpose

A chemical peel applies an acid solution to break the bonds holding dead cells to the surface, so the skin sheds them and replaces them faster than it would on its own. Underneath, the same injury signal prompts new collagen.

Different acids do different jobs. Glycolic works on surface texture and dullness. Salicylic is oil-soluble, so it gets into the pore itself and suits congestion and breakouts. Lactic is gentler and hydrating, for sensitive or dry skin. Mandelic is slower and safer on darker skin tones. TCA goes deeper, for scarring and stubborn pigment.

Choosing between them is the whole treatment. The wrong acid at the right strength does nothing; the right acid at the wrong strength burns. And on skin that has spent a week in tropical sun, several of them shouldn’t be used at all that day.

Peeling is also a course, not an event. Strength is stepped up across sessions as the skin proves it can handle more — that’s what makes it safe on Asian and darker skin types, where an aggressive first peel is the fastest route to post-inflammatory pigmentation.

Application is even and timed. The solution stays on for a set interval, is watched throughout, and is neutralised — not left to run its course.

What it treats

Face, and everywhere else

Peeling isn’t only a facial treatment — back, chest, arms and hands respond as well or better. Filter by what you want to change.

Filter by what you want to change — or describe it in consultation and we’ll tell you which acid suits your skin, and at what strength to start.

Face

Active breakouts and congestion

Salicylic acid is oil-soluble, so it works inside the pore rather than on top of it. The most reliable peel for oily, congested skin — and the one that suits this climate best.

Salicylic · course of 4 – 6

Face

Post-acne marks

The red and brown marks left behind after spots clear. These are pigment, not scars, and they respond well — usually the single most satisfying thing peeling does.

Builds across sessions

Face

Sun spots and uneven tone

Surface pigment from years of UV. Treatable, but only alongside genuine sun protection — peeling pigmented skin and then going to the beach makes it darker, not lighter.

Sun discipline required

Face

Melasma

Handled carefully and never aggressively. Melasma is hormonal and heat-sensitive, and a strong peel can worsen it. Gentle acids, low strength, and honest expectations about control rather than cure.

Rough texture and dullness

Skin that catches makeup and photographs flat. Removing the built-up surface layer is the fastest visible change peeling makes, and the reason people book before events.

Shallow acne scarring

Rolling and boxcar scars improve gradually with deeper peels, usually alongside other treatments. Deep ice-pick scarring needs more than acid, and we’ll say so.

The acid matters less than the plan

Patients often arrive asking for a specific peel they read about. What actually decides the result is your skin type, your pigmentation risk, how much sun you’re getting, and starting low enough to step up safely. That’s a fifteen-minute conversation and it changes the whole course. Send a photo and tell us what you see.

Ask on WhatsApp

Acid, strength and interval are decided after your skin is examined. Fitzpatrick skin type, recent sun exposure, medication and pigmentation history all change what’s safe — which is why peels here aren’t sold as fixed named packages.

Depth & strength

Start low. Step up. Never the reverse.

The single biggest predictor of a bad peel result isn’t the acid used. It’s starting too strong on skin that hadn’t been tested yet.

Superficial peels reach the outer epidermis. Light flaking for a few days, minimal risk, and the strength most first appointments use. Enough on their own for dullness, congestion and mild texture.

Medium-depth peels reach the full epidermis and upper dermis. Visible peeling for five to seven days, real results on post-acne marks and shallow scarring — and real risk of pigmentation if the skin wasn’t prepared or the sun isn’t avoided afterwards.

On Asian and darker skin tones, that risk is higher, and post-inflammatory hyperpigmentation is far harder to fix than the problem being treated. Which is why we test, prepare the skin for a few weeks first where needed, and step strength up only when the previous session healed cleanly.

Pricing

Peeling prices in Bali

Chemical peeling at Aeconic is priced per cc, from IDR 150,000 — so a chin costs a fraction of a full face, and a back costs more than either. You pay for the solution your skin actually needs.

Priced per cc From IDR 150,000

The most affordable treatment in the clinic, and the fairest way to price it — a targeted area uses a fraction of what a full face or a back does.

The course Usually 4 – 6 sessions

Spaced two to four weeks apart, with strength stepped up as the skin proves it can take it. We quote the expected course at consultation, not one session at a time.

Combined Quoted as a plan

Peels sequence well with medical facials from IDR 750,000 and with injectables — but never on the same day. Plans are priced together.

Prices are in Indonesian Rupiah and confirmed before treatment starts. Nothing is added mid-treatment, and you are never asked to commit to a package on a first visit. If your skin isn’t in a state to be peeled that day — recent sun, compromised barrier, active infection — we’ll reschedule rather than proceed.

Who prescribes it

A peel is a burn you’re choosing to control

Peeling protocols at Aeconic are set within a doctor-led clinic under Dr. Connie Calista Tham, and matched to your skin type rather than run from a fixed script.

Everything about a peel is a judgement call: which acid, what percentage, what pH, how long it stays on, when to neutralise, and — most often — whether to treat at all today. Get those right and it’s one of the most cost-effective treatments in aesthetics. Get them wrong and you’ve caused pigmentation that takes six months to fade.

Skin type is the part most often skipped. Higher Fitzpatrick types pigment readily in response to inflammation, and most peel protocols circulating online were written for skin that doesn’t. On Indonesian and Southeast Asian skin, going gently and going slowly isn’t caution for its own sake — it’s the only way to get there at all.

If peeling isn’t right for what’s bothering you, Dr. Connie will say so — sometimes it’s a medical facial, sometimes Rejuran, sometimes acne that needs medication rather than acid.

Duration & results

What happens, and when

30 – 60 min

The appointment

Cleanse, prep, then the solution applied and timed. You’ll feel tingling or mild stinging that builds and settles. Neutralised, soothed, sunscreen on before you leave.

Day 1 – 2

Tight and pink

Skin feels taut and looks slightly flushed, like mild sunburn. Makeup usually fine from the next day depending on strength.

Day 3 – 7

Flaking, then the result

Peeling starts around day three and runs a few days. Don’t pull it. The result is what’s underneath once it’s finished shedding.

4 – 6 sessions

The course

Two to four weeks apart, strength stepped up as the skin allows. Then maintenance every one to two months to hold it.

Timings vary with strength. Superficial peels may cause barely visible flaking; medium-depth peels peel obviously for five to seven days. We tell you which you’re getting before you agree to it.

Before & aftercare

The week afterwards is the treatment

Of everything we offer, this is the treatment most easily ruined by Bali itself. Freshly peeled skin has lost its outer layer, and equatorial UV is waiting on the other side of the door.

Before your peel

  • Avoid sun exposure for 5 to 7 days beforehand. A beach week means we postpone — peeling recently tanned skin risks pigmentation.
  • Stop retinol, acids, scrubs and exfoliating tools for 5 days.
  • No waxing, threading, laser or hair removal on the area for a week.
  • Arrive with clean skin and no makeup, and tell us if you’re prone to cold sores — a peel can trigger an outbreak and we may pre-treat.
  • Disclose isotretinoin, recent or current. It rules out peeling during the course and for months afterwards.
  • Don’t book within two weeks of a wedding, shoot or important event.

After your peel

  • High-SPF sunscreen every day, reapplied, plus a hat. This is not optional and it is not aftercare — it’s half the treatment.
  • Stay out of direct sun for a week. No beach days, no all-day scooter rides without cover.
  • Don’t pick, pull or scrub the flaking skin. Let it shed on its own or you’ll be left with marks.
  • Bland moisturiser only. No retinol, acids, vitamin C or scrubs until fully healed — usually 7 to 10 days.
  • No sauna, steam, hot yoga or heavy sweating for 48 hours.
  • No sea or pool until peeling has finished. Salt and chlorine on raw skin sting and irritate.
  • No makeup for 24 hours, and no other facial treatments for two weeks.

Redness, tightness and flaking are expected. Blistering, persistent burning or darkening patches are not — message the clinic directly on WhatsApp if you see any of those rather than waiting for your next appointment.

Peel or something else

Three treatments people confuse with it

Peeling resurfaces what’s already there. If the problem is congestion on the surface, dehydration underneath, or oil production itself, something else does it better — often alongside.

Medical facials

Cleansing, extraction and hydration at the surface. A facial clears what’s sitting in the pore; a peel resurfaces the skin around it. Most plans run both, spaced apart — never in the same appointment.

Medical facials →

Rejuran

Polynucleotides that repair thin, damaged or reactive skin from within. Where a peel removes and provokes, Rejuran rebuilds. Skin too compromised for acid often needs this first.

Rejuran in Bali →

Meso Botox

Diluted toxin in the superficial skin that reduces sebum and pore size. If congestion returns within weeks of every peel, oil production is the underlying problem rather than the surface.

Meso Botox →

Visiting Bali

Timing a peel around your trip

This is the one treatment we regularly ask holidaymakers to skip — and it’s worth explaining why rather than just taking the booking.

A peel and a beach holiday don’t mix. You need a week out of direct sun afterwards, and recently tanned skin can’t be peeled safely beforehand. If your trip is sun, surf and pool, we’ll usually suggest a facial instead and book the peel for a different visit.

Living here, or staying a while? Then peeling is genuinely worth doing — but plan the course for the shoulder months or a working stretch rather than a season of beach days.

Flying soon? Cabin air on freshly peeled skin is drying and uncomfortable. Leave at least a few days, and pack the moisturiser in your carry-on.

Wet season vs dry. The wet season is easier on a peel course — less relentless UV, more cloud cover. If you’re choosing when to start, that’s the window.

Questions

Before you book

Anything not covered here, message us — we answer WhatsApp during clinic hours, Monday to Saturday.

How much does a chemical peel cost in Bali?

At Aeconic Clinic in Canggu, chemical peeling is priced per cc from IDR 150,000. Pricing this way is fairer than a flat fee — a targeted patch on the chin uses a fraction of what a full face needs, and a back uses considerably more.

Peeling works as a course, usually four to six sessions two to four weeks apart, so we quote the expected course at consultation rather than session by session. Nothing is added mid-treatment.

Which peel is right for my skin?

It depends on the concern and on your skin type. Salicylic suits oily, congested and breakout-prone skin because it works inside the pore. Glycolic suits texture and dullness. Lactic is gentler, for dry or sensitive skin. Mandelic is safer on darker tones. TCA goes deeper, for post-acne marks and shallow scarring.

Choosing between them is the actual treatment, and it’s not something to decide from an article. Your Fitzpatrick skin type, pigmentation history, current products and recent sun exposure all change the answer — which is why we assess before we prescribe.

Will my skin actually peel, and how much downtime is there?

It depends on strength. A superficial peel may cause only light flaking around days three to five and barely interrupt your week. A medium-depth peel peels visibly for five to seven days, and you’ll want to plan around that.

We tell you which you’re getting before you agree to it, so there are no surprises on day three. Whatever the strength, don’t pull the flaking skin — pulling it early is the most common cause of marks that outlast the peel.

Is peeling safe on Asian or darker skin?

Yes, with the right approach — and it’s the question we take most seriously. Higher Fitzpatrick skin types pigment readily in response to inflammation, so an aggressive peel can leave post-inflammatory hyperpigmentation that’s harder to fix than the original concern.

The answer isn’t avoiding peels; it’s choosing gentler acids, starting at low strength, sometimes preparing the skin for a few weeks first, and stepping up only after a session has healed cleanly. Slower, and it works. Fast, and it doesn’t.

How many sessions do I need?

Typically four to six, spaced two to four weeks apart, with strength increased as your skin proves it can take it. Post-acne marks and pigmentation usually need the full course; dullness and texture often show after one or two.

After the course, maintenance every one to two months holds the result. In this climate, without maintenance and without sunscreen, pigmentation returns.

Can I have a peel while on holiday in Bali?

Usually we’d advise against it, and we’d rather say so than take the booking. A peel needs a week out of direct sun afterwards, and skin that’s recently tanned can’t be peeled safely to begin with. A sun-and-surf trip is the wrong week for it.

If you’re here longer, working, or staying through the wet season, it’s a different conversation and well worth doing. For a short beach holiday we’ll usually suggest a medical facial instead — visible the same day, and nothing to protect afterwards.

Can I have a peel with active acne, or on acne medication?

With active acne, often yes — salicylic peels are one of the better treatments for it. Very inflamed or cystic acne is different, and needs medical management rather than acid on top of it.

On isotretinoin, no. It makes skin fragile and slows healing, and peeling is ruled out during the course and for several months afterwards. Tell us at booking rather than on the day, so we can plan around it instead of turning you away.

Where is Aeconic Clinic located and what are your opening hours?

Guide

Choosing where to have a chemical peel in Bali

Peeling is the cheapest treatment to offer and the easiest to get wrong. In a market this competitive, that combination should make you ask more questions, not fewer.

Ask what your skin type means for the plan

If nobody mentions your Fitzpatrick type or your pigmentation history, walk. Higher skin types pigment in response to inflammation, and most protocols circulating online were written for skin that doesn’t. On Indonesian and Southeast Asian skin, that omission is how a peel becomes a six-month problem.

Ask which acid, and at what percentage

“A peel” isn’t a treatment; it’s a category. Ask which acid, what concentration, what pH and whether it’s buffered. A clinic that can’t answer isn’t choosing — it’s applying whatever it bought in bulk.

Ask what happens if you’re recently sun-exposed

The correct answer is that they reschedule you. In Canggu, most patients arrive with some tan, and a clinic that peels regardless is prioritising the booking over your skin. Being turned away is a good sign.

Ask about the course, not the session

Real results come from four to six sessions with strength stepped up gradually. A single-session price tells you almost nothing. Ask what the whole course costs, how it escalates, and what happens if a session heals badly.

Check the aftercare is written for here

This matters more for peeling than for any other treatment. Freshly peeled skin has lost its outer layer, and equatorial UV is waiting outside. If the sheet you’re handed doesn’t lead with sunscreen and a week out of the sun, it wasn’t written for this island.

Ask who you contact on day four

Peels declare themselves days later. Flaking, tightness and pinkness are expected; blistering, persistent burning and darkening patches aren’t. Ask who answers at 9pm on a Saturday, and how fast.
