A collagen biostimulator is an injectable that provokes your own tissue into producing collagen, rather than simply occupying space under the skin. Radiesse — calcium hydroxylapatite microspheres in a gel carrier — is the one most patients here have heard of.
The gel does two jobs at once. On the day, it corrects volume and lifts, so you leave with a visible change. Over the following weeks the carrier is absorbed and the microspheres remain, triggering a controlled healing response that lays down new collagen along the treated plane. By month three the product is largely gone and the firmness that replaced it is yours.
That's the difference from filler. Filler holds shape because the gel is there; a biostimulator holds shape because your skin rebuilt itself around it. It's also why the result keeps improving after the appointment instead of fading from it.
What it doesn't do is reshape a face precisely. For lips, tear trough and defined contour, dermal filler is the correct tool and it can be dissolved. Biostimulators are for diffuse laxity across a broad area — and they cannot be reversed, which shapes how we use them.

Collagen biostimulators at Aeconic start from IDR 4,200,000 per treatment. They sit at the top of our injectable range for one reason: the product is expensive, and there is no way to under-dose it and still get collagen.
One treatment, priced by product. Ultracol, Aesplla, Radiesse and Sculptra sit at different points, and the right one depends on your indication rather than your budget.
Some indications need a second session at three months to build the result properly. Where that applies we quote the whole plan up front rather than session by session.
Neck, décolleté and hands are quoted alongside the face. Treating them in the same appointment costs less than booking them separately.
Prices are in Indonesian Rupiah and confirmed before treatment starts. Nothing is added mid-treatment, and you are never asked to commit to a package on a first visit. This one can't be undone, so it can't be rushed
Every collagen biostimulator treatment at Aeconic is assessed and injected by our clinic doctor, Dr. Connie Calista Tham. Nothing is delegated to a therapist, and nothing is injected before an examination.
Hyaluronic acid filler has a safety net: hyaluronidase dissolves it within a day or two. Calcium hydroxylapatite and poly-L-lactic acid do not. Once the product is placed and your body has built collagen around it, that result is what you have until it resorbs over a year or more.
That single fact governs how we use it. We dose conservatively, we place it in the correct plane rather than superficially, and we would rather treat you twice than over-treat you once. We also decline it outright for patients whose problem is volume loss rather than laxity, because a biostimulator will not solve that and cannot be taken back out.
We use registered product with single-use sterile technique and show you the box and batch before injection. If a biostimulator isn't the right answer, Dr. Connie will say so — sometimes it's filler, sometimes Liftera 2 ultrasound lifting, sometimes a skin booster, and sometimes it's sunscreen and time.

What happens, and when
The appointment
Assessment, mapping, topical numbing, then injection by needle or cannula depending on the plane. Longer than most injectables because the area treated is larger.
Immediate correction
You leave with visible lift from the gel carrier, plus mild swelling. Some of what you see on day one is swelling and will settle.
Collagen builds
The carrier resorbs and your own collagen replaces it. Many patients feel the result dip slightly around week three, then improve steadily — that's the treatment working as designed.
How long it lasts
Longer than any other injectable we offer, because the firmness is your own tissue. Sun exposure is the fastest way to shorten it.
Timings are typical. Regenerative treatments work on your own tissue, so age, skin condition, smoking and sun exposure all affect how quickly and how much you respond.
Before & aftercare
Protecting the result in a tropical climate
Standard biostimulator aftercare assumes an air-conditioned life. Here the result has to survive heat, salt water, pools and relentless UV — so ours is written for Bali.
Before your treatment
- Skip alcohol, caffeine and blood-thinning supplements — fish oil, vitamin E, ginkgo — for 24 hours. All increase bruising.
- Pause anti-inflammatories where your prescribing doctor allows it. Never stop prescribed medication without asking them first.
- No dental work in the week before or after treatment, particularly for jaw, chin and lower-face work.
- Arrive hydrated, rested and having eaten, with clean skin and no heavy makeup.
- Tell us if you're pregnant or breastfeeding, have an autoimmune condition, or have had filler or a biostimulator in the same area before.
- Don't book within three weeks of a wedding, shoot or flight home. This is not a same-week treatment.
After your treatment
- Mild swelling, redness or bruising is normal and temporary. Some of what you see on day one is swelling, not result.
- Don't press or massage the area unless we've specifically shown you how — for some products, massage is part of the protocol and we'll tell you.
- Stay upright for 4 – 6 hours and avoid sleeping on the treated side for two nights.
- No sauna, steam, hot yoga or heavy exercise for 48 hours.
- No sea, pool or surf for 48 hours. Salt water and chlorine on fresh injection points is the fastest route to irritation here.
- High-SPF sunscreen and a hat daily, without exception. UV degrades new collagen faster than anything else on this island.
- No facials, peels, RF or laser over the treated area for 2 weeks.
- Keep drinking water and eating properly — you're asking your body to build tissue.
Occasional pinpoint bruising can occur, and small firm areas can form if product settles unevenly. Message the clinic directly on WhatsApp if anything concerns you rather than waiting for your review — early is easier to manage than late with this product.

Timing it around your trip
A large share of our patients are travellers and expats on the west coast. Biostimulators are a slow treatment, and that changes how you should plan them.
Leave three weeks before anything that matters. Swelling settles within days, but the result dips before it builds. A wedding or a shoot two weeks out is the worst possible window.
Two days out of the water. No sea, no pool, no surf for 48 hours, and a clear fortnight either side of peels or laser. Book around your surf days, not into them.
Short trip? This one travels well, because the work happens after you leave. One appointment early in your stay and the collagen builds at home — we review by photo at three months.
Living in Canggu? This is where it makes the most sense. UV here breaks collagen down faster than anywhere temperate, and rebuilding it once a year holds the line better than anything topical will. Sunscreen is not optional afterwards; it's the treatment plan.

What is a collagen biostimulator, and how is it different from filler?
A collagen biostimulator is an injectable that prompts your own tissue to produce collagen. Radiesse uses calcium hydroxylapatite microspheres in a gel carrier; Sculptra uses poly-L-lactic acid. The gel corrects volume immediately, then resorbs over the following weeks while the microspheres trigger a controlled healing response that lays down new collagen.
Filler works differently: it holds shape because the gel is physically there. A biostimulator holds shape because your skin rebuilt itself. The practical difference is that filler is precise and reversible, while a biostimulator works across a broad plane, improves for months after the appointment — and cannot be dissolved.
Can a collagen biostimulator be dissolved if I don't like it?
No, and this is the most important thing to understand before booking. Hyaluronic acid filler can be dissolved with hyaluronidase within a day or two. Calcium hydroxylapatite and poly-L-lactic acid cannot. Once placed, the product resorbs on its own timeline and the collagen your body built around it stays until it turns over naturally.
That's why we dose conservatively, place carefully, and would rather treat you twice than over-treat you once. It's also why we decline this treatment for patients whose problem is volume loss rather than laxity — a biostimulator won't solve that, and it can't be taken back out.
How long does it last, and when will I see the result?
You'll see immediate correction on the day from the gel carrier. That settles over the first week, then the collagen response builds from around week four through to month three. Many patients notice a slight dip around week three before the improvement starts — that's the carrier resorbing, and it's expected.
The finished result generally holds 12 to 18 months, which is longer than any other injectable we offer, because the firmness is your own tissue rather than a product. Sun exposure, smoking and age all shorten it.
Is there downtime, and does it hurt?
Topical numbing is applied first and most products contain or are mixed with lidocaine. The appointment takes 30 to 60 minutes — longer than most injectables because the treated area is larger. Most patients describe pressure rather than pain.
Expect mild swelling, redness and possible bruising for a few days. Avoid pressure and heat on the area, no sauna or heavy exercise for 48 hours, no sea or pool for 48 hours, and no facials, peels, RF or laser for two weeks. Don't massage the area unless we've specifically shown you how — for some products that's part of the protocol.
Do I need filler or a biostimulator?
Start from what has actually changed. A face that has deflated — flat cheeks, a hollow under the eye, thinning lips — has lost volume, and filler replaces it. A face that has softened and dropped, where the skin no longer springs back, has lost support, and a biostimulator rebuilds it.
Most faces are some of both. Where that's true, the sequence matters: biostimulator first, then filler once the new firmness has settled, usually needs less filler than doing it the other way round. Dr. Connie assesses this in person, because it isn't reliably visible in a photograph.
Can I have it while on holiday in Bali?
Yes, and it's one of the more travel-friendly injectables — the work happens after you leave. Book early in your stay, avoid sea, pool, sauna and heavy exercise for 48 hours, and we'll review by photo at three months when the collagen has built.
The one thing to avoid is booking within three weeks of an event. The result dips before it builds, so a wedding two weeks after treatment catches it at the worst point. High-SPF sunscreen daily from the day after, without exception.

Choosing where to get a collagen biostimulator in Bali
Of every injectable offered in Canggu, this is the one where the choice of clinic matters most — because it is the one you cannot undo.
Ask what happens if you don't like it
The honest answer is: you wait. There is no dissolving agent for calcium hydroxylapatite or poly-L-lactic acid. A clinic that glosses over that, or implies it works like filler, has told you what you need to know about the rest of the consultation.
Ask who injects, and in which plane
In Indonesia, injectables are a medical act. Biostimulator placed too superficially produces visible nodules that persist for months. Ask whether a doctor performs the injection or whether a therapist does it under nominal supervision. At Aeconic, Dr. Connie Calista Tham assesses and injects — there is no version of the visit where that changes.
Ask to see the box
Registered product comes in sealed packaging with a batch number. Ask to see the brand and batch before it is opened, and ask which product is being used and why that one. A price well below the market is a signal about what's in the syringe.
Ask whether it's the right treatment at all
Firmness and volume are different problems. A biostimulator will not fill a hollow, and filling a hollow with one is an expensive mistake you keep for over a year. A clinic that recommends it for everything from tear troughs to lips is optimising for revenue — and a clinic that says "this is volume, you need filler instead" has just saved you several million rupiah.
Ask what the review looks like
The result is not finished when you leave. It builds through month three, dips first, and needs assessing at that point rather than at two weeks. Ask when the review is, who you contact if something firms unevenly, and whether a second session is anticipated in the plan.

In Canggu, the 48 hours afterwards involve heat, sweat, salt water and pool chlorine — and the year afterwards involves UV that degrades new collagen faster than anything else.
