What it is
Heat, delivered under the skin
HIFU stands for High-Intensity Focused Ultrasound. Sound waves are focused to a precise point beneath the surface, where the energy converts to heat and creates tiny coagulation points in the tissue — without touching the skin above them.
What makes it different from every other non-surgical tightening device is the depth. HIFU reaches the SMAS layer — the sheet of fibrous tissue a surgeon actually lifts and sutures in a facelift. Radiofrequency, lasers and creams cannot get there. That's the whole argument for the treatment.
Those coagulation points then heal. Over the following weeks the tissue contracts and lays down new collagen along the treated plane, so the lift you see at three months is your own tissue rather than anything that was added.
The trade-off is patience and honesty about scale. You leave with nothing to show. The change appears from two to four weeks and peaks around three months, and it's a firming and tightening rather than a surgical lift. Anyone promising a facelift result from a device is overselling it.

HIFU prices in Bali
HIFU at Aeconic starts from IDR 500,000 per area, with a full face from IDR 4,500,000. Per-area pricing exists so you can treat a jawline without paying for a forehead you don't need lifted.
One zone, priced by area — under-eye from IDR 500,000, brow from IDR 1,000,000, under the chin from IDR 2,000,000. The most affordable entry point to HIFU anywhere in Canggu, and enough to see how your skin responds.
Every zone in one session, usually 60 to 90 minutes. The option when laxity is general rather than in one place, and better value than four separate areas.
The neck is where most people see the biggest change and is quoted alongside the face. Treating both in one appointment costs less than booking them separately.
Prices are in Indonesian Rupiah and confirmed before treatment starts. Nothing is added mid-treatment, and you are never asked to commit to a package on a first visit. Ask any clinic quoting HIFU how many shots or lines are included at that price — it's the number that actually determines whether it works, and it's the number most quotes leave out.
Who assesses it
The settings matter more than the machine
HIFU at Aeconic is assessed within a doctor-led clinic under Dr. Connie Calista Tham, and the treatment plan is set from your anatomy rather than from a fixed protocol.
Every clinic advertising HIFU has a similar-looking machine. What differs is depth selection, energy level, the number of lines delivered, and whether anyone checked that your face is a good candidate first.
Two mistakes are common. Under-dosing — running too few lines to keep the price low, which produces nothing and convinces the patient HIFU doesn't work. And treating a face too thin for it, where tightening tissue that has already lost volume reads as gaunt rather than lifted. Neither is a machine problem.
If HIFU isn't the right answer, we'll say so. Sometimes that's a collagen biostimulator, sometimes filler to restore what's been lost before anything is tightened, sometimes a surgeon.

What happens, and when
The appointment
Cleanse, mapping, ultrasound gel, then the applicator worked across each zone at the set depth. You'll feel warmth and brief prickling in places — more so over bone.
Nothing to see
Mild redness or slight puffiness at most, gone within hours. Makeup straight away, back to work, back to dinner. This is the point of it.
Tightening begins
The treated tissue contracts and collagen starts rebuilding. The first thing most patients notice is the jawline reading cleaner in photographs.
Peak result
Full effect, then a gradual fade over 6 to 12 months. One session a year holds it; sun exposure is the fastest way to lose it.
Timings are typical. HIFU works through your own collagen response, so age, skin thickness, smoking and sun exposure all affect how much and how quickly you respond.
Before & aftercare
Protecting the result in a tropical climate
HIFU has the lightest aftercare of anything we offer — which is exactly why people forget the one rule that matters. New collagen and equatorial UV are not friends.
Before your treatment
- Avoid sun exposure, retinol and exfoliants for 3 to 5 days. Sunburnt skin means we postpone.
- Arrive with a clean face — no makeup, no lotion, no sunscreen on the treated area.
- Tell us about any filler, biostimulator or thread work in the area, and roughly when. Ultrasound heat interacts with some of them.
- Tell us if you're pregnant or breastfeeding, have an active skin infection, or have metal implants or an electronic device in the treatment zone.
- Eat beforehand — the treatment is long and the sensation is easier on a full stomach.
- Book at least 3 months before an event if this is your only treatment, since that's when the result peaks.
After your treatment
- High-SPF sunscreen and a hat daily. UV degrades new collagen faster than anything else on this island, and this treatment is entirely made of new collagen.
- No sauna, steam, hot showers, hot yoga or heavy exercise for 24 hours.
- Sea and pool are fine from 24 hours — nothing is open, so this is gentler than most treatments here.
- Skip facial massage and harsh actives for a few days. Gentle cleanser and moisturiser only.
- Mild tenderness, tingling or a slightly bruised feeling over bone can last a few days. Normal.
- Stay hydrated and eat properly — you're asking your body to build tissue.
- Leave 2 weeks either side of peels, laser or facials in the same area.
Numbness or small firm areas along the jaw occasionally occur and settle over a few weeks. Message the clinic directly on WhatsApp if anything concerns you rather than waiting for your review.

Three treatments people weigh against it
HIFU tightens tissue that's still there. If volume has genuinely been lost, or if there's real excess skin, tightening alone gives you a firmer version of the same problem.

Also regenerative, but injected — rebuilding structural support rather than heating tissue. Holds longer at 12 to 18 months, and can't be reversed. HIFU is the no-needle route to a similar goal, and the two combine well.

Of everything we offer, this is the most travel-friendly. Nothing is injected, nothing is open, and the work happens after you've flown home.
Any day of the trip works. No swelling to hide, no bruising, no days indoors. Book it on your last morning if you like — the result appears weeks later regardless.
Back in the water at 24 hours. Just skip the sauna, the hot showers and the gym for a day. Sea and pool are fine after that.
But wear the sunscreen. This is the one thing that decides your result, and it's the thing holidaymakers skip. HIFU's entire effect is new collagen, and equatorial UV dismantles it faster than anywhere you've come from.

How much does HIFU cost in Bali?
At Aeconic Clinic in Canggu, HIFU starts from IDR 500,000 per area, with a full face from IDR 4,500,000. Pricing per area means you can treat a jawline or an under-eye without paying for zones you don't need lifted.
When comparing quotes between clinics in Bali, ask how many shots or lines are included at that price. That number is what determines whether the treatment works, and it's the number most cheap quotes leave out — under-dosing is the most common reason people conclude HIFU did nothing.
What is HIFU, and how is Liftera 2 different?

Liftera 2 is the platform we use, made by Asterasys in Korea. Its applicator glides continuously rather than firing fixed shots one at a time, which spreads the energy more evenly and is noticeably more comfortable than older HIFU devices — the main reason people who found HIFU painful elsewhere tolerate this one.
Does HIFU hurt, and is there downtime?
You'll feel warmth and brief prickling as the energy is delivered, strongest over bone — the jawline and the brow. It's very manageable and the continuous applicator makes it easier than fixed-shot HIFU. Sessions run 30 to 90 minutes depending on how many areas are treated.
There's no downtime at all, which is the main reason people choose it. Mild redness or slight puffiness settles within hours, makeup goes on straight away. Some tenderness or a bruised feeling along the jaw can last a few days.
When will I see results, and how long do they last?

If there's genuine excess skin to remove, no device will be enough and we'll tell you so. If several things have changed at once, HIFU is usually step one of a sequenced non-surgical lifting plan rather than the whole answer.
Does HIFU work for a double chin?
For laxity, yes — it tightens the skin under the chin and firms the transition into the neck, which is one of the more visible changes it makes. It's among our most requested areas for exactly that reason.
For fat, no. If the fullness under your chin is submental fat rather than loose skin, tightening the skin over it won't remove it, and we'll say so at assessment rather than take the booking. The two often coexist, and telling them apart is what the consultation is for.
Who shouldn't have HIFU?
Very thin or already-hollow faces are the main one. HIFU needs tissue with enough substance to contract, and tightening a face that has lost volume can read as gaunt rather than lifted. On those faces we'd suggest restoring volume first.
It's also not appropriate during pregnancy or breastfeeding, over active skin infection or open lesions, or over metal implants and electronic devices in the treatment zone. Recent filler, biostimulator or thread work in the area needs disclosing, since ultrasound heat interacts with some of them.

Choosing where to have HIFU in Bali
HIFU is advertised across Canggu and Seminyak at prices spanning a factor of ten, on machines that all look similar in a photograph. The difference is almost never the device.
Ask how many shots or lines you're getting
This is the question. HIFU works by delivering enough energy across the area, and the standard way to make a quote look cheap is to cut the line count. Too few lines produces no result — and the patient concludes the treatment doesn't work rather than that they were under-dosed. Ask for the number before you compare prices.
Ask which machine, and whether it's registered
Unbranded HIFU devices are widely available and widely used. Ask the make and model, and look it up. We use Liftera 2 by Asterasys, a Korean platform, and we're happy for you to see it.
Ask whether your face is a good candidate
HIFU needs tissue with substance to contract. On a thin or hollow face it can look gaunt; where there's real excess skin it won't be enough. A clinic that says yes to every face isn't assessing — and this is a treatment where the wrong candidate wastes months as well as money, because you don't find out for three of them.
Ask what depth they're treating
Different cartridges reach different layers — roughly 1.5mm, 3.0mm and 4.5mm — and the jawline, the under-eye and the neck are not treated at the same depth. A clinic running one cartridge over the whole face is doing part of the job.
Ask what happens at three months
That's when the result exists. A clinic that reviews you then, and photographs it, is standing behind the treatment. One that takes payment and never contacts you again has priced the appointment rather than the outcome.
Take the sunscreen seriously
HIFU's entire effect is collagen your body builds over the following months, and UV at this latitude breaks collagen down faster than anywhere temperate. Skipping sunscreen after HIFU in Bali means paying for a result you then dismantle yourself.
